The Canada Loan for Greener Homes

To encourage Canadians to make their homes more energy efficient, the Canada Green Home Loan provides interest-free financial assistance. Homeowners can improve the energy performance of their homes while reducing their ecological footprint!

Quebec homeowners must go through the Renoclimat program.

Maximum: $40,000
Minimum: $5,000
Terms of repayment: 10 years, interest free
Type of loan: Unsecured personal loan, on approved credit

The maximum eligible loan amount is determined based on the renovations selected in your application, as well as the estimates for those renovations. The eligible amount is capped in accordance with industry and market standards. The maximum loan amount may be less than the estimated cost of the work, in which case you will be responsible for financing the difference.

Only one loan may be granted per eligible property and per owner-occupant.

It is important to note that this loan can only finance products and installations that are recommended by an energy advisor and that are eligible for the grant. This way, you can be sure that the renovations financed by the loan will contribute to improving the energy efficiency of your home and still be eligible for the grant.

Who can benefit?

The Canada Green Home Loan is available to any homeowner or co-owner of a home located in Canada; only one homeowner per home can apply.

In Quebec, homeowners must register with the Renoclimat program, in addition to meeting the following conditions

  • The property must be your principal residence and eligible for an EnerGuide evaluation;
  • The property must be one of the following types: single family home, single family semi-detached home, townhouse, four season cottage, mobile home on a permanent foundation or be residential in a multi-unit building of less than 3 stories and less than 6400 square feet;
  • Renovation materials must be purchased in Canada;
  • The primary residence must be at least six months old from the date of first occupancy.
